Consumers have more reason to cheer as Apple Inc. has also slashed prices of previous generation handsets—iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus—by as much as Rs8,300.
The latest installment from Apple will compete head-on with Samsung Galaxy Note 8 that will be available in India from 21 September for Rs 67,000.
Consumers looking for more affordable options in the Apple ecosystem can opt for iPhone 7 (32GB) that will now be available for Rs49,000 (cheaper by Rs7,200) or iPhone 7 Plus (32GB) for Rs59,000, a reduction of Rs8,300. If one converts directly from $999 to Rupees, the price is then Rs 63,000 plus, which nearly Rs 20,000 less than the price of the iPhone X in India. Even with taxes, you are likely to save some money on the iPhone in the US, but again as we’ve noted this will depend on the state from where you purchase. Also remember that warranty for the same iPhone won’t be covered in India.
Similarly if you convert the iPhone 8 starting price in Hong Kong, then you can get the 64GB version for as low as Rs 50,000. This is nearly Rs 14,000 less than the starting price in India. The 256GB version is available at Rs 60,000. For those wanting to get the iPhone X, the Hong Kong market price means you can get this at Rs 70,000. Once again this is a significant difference compared to India pricing. However, the warranty issue remains with all iPhone purchased from outside India.
